Main / Base Grips
Your racket handle is the only contact point you have with the ball. While many players focus on strings, your base grip (also known as main or replacement grip) is the foundation of your control, comfort, and shock absorption.
What is the base grip?
A base grip is the thick, cushioned layer wrapped directly onto the bare handle (the pallet) of your racket. Unlike a thin overgrip, a base grip features an adhesive backing to glue it securely to the handle. It typically measures 1.5mm to 2.5mm in thickness, providing the primary barrier between your hand and the harsh vibrations of ball impact.
Choosing the right base grip changes how your racket feels and performs. We offer both premium synthetic and classic leather options.
Synthetic

Leather
HEAD Leather Tour Replacement Grip = £14
This 100% genuine leather base grip provides a firm, crisp feel that lets you perfectly distinct the octagonal edges (bevels) of your handle and is typically paired with a tacky overgrip. Leather also adds about 29 grams of weight to the handle, making your racket slightly more head-light.

When Should You Replace Your Base Grip?
Overgrips can be changed frequently, but your base grip needs replacing too. You are due for a fresh base grip if:

The cushioning feels completely flattened or hard.

The material is peeling, tearing, or leaving crumbs on your hands.

You notice increased hand fatigue or stinging vibrations during off-centre hits.

Don't let a worn-out, slippery grip ruin your fresh string job. When you drop off your racket, ask us to inspect your handle. We can install a premium replacement grip (paired with an overgrip if needed) to ensure your racket feels brand new the next time you step onto the court.
Overgrips
Most players opt for an overgrip on their racket; an overgrip is a thin, affordable tape wrapped over your racket’s base (main) grip.
While string choice dictates your power and control, your overgrip dictates your connection to the racket.
Why Use An Overgrip?
No-Slip Control: It absorbs hand sweat and provides a tacky or dry texture, preventing the racket from twisting during heavy hits.
Blister Prevention: Fresh overgrips stay soft, reducing the friction that causes painful calluses and blisters.
Grip Size Fine-Tuning: It adds a fraction of a size (about 1–1.5 mm) to your handle, helping you dial in the perfect, custom fit. Note they also add around 7-10 grams of weight to0.
Protects Base Grip: Overgrips protect your expensive factory base grip from wearing down. They are cheap and incredibly easy to replace regularly.
Pro Tip: We recommend changing your overgrip as often as you re-string your racket to keep your equipment performing at its absolute best!

Wilson Pro Overgrip = £4
Widely regarded as an industry standard for tacky tennis overgrips.
It combines a super-thin 0.6 mm polyurethane felt with high elasticity for a secure hold and precise bevel feedback. Trusted by professionals and recreational players alike, it delivers a balanced, tacky feel that maximizes comfort and control, though heavy sweat and dirt accumulation can diminish its performance over time

All overgrip costs include professional fitting where we make sure the grip is wrapped correctly, secured for maximum control and tapered for a neat aesthetic finish.
Note if you want this service it is really helpful if you can remove your current overgrip prior to dropping your racket with us!
